Nasal corrections are a major challenge and allow the surgeon not only to change appearance but also to improve breathing function. The shape of the nose can be modified either through incisions that are invisible externally or via an approach that enables full visualization of the cartilaginous–bony framework and reconstruction of the stabilization system that prevents cartilage displacement resulting from gravity. Correction of the nasal septum may be limited solely to the septum itself, or it may require osteotomy of the nasal bones and repositioning of the bony framework. Such procedures fall within the domain of plastic surgery. Examples of the nasal appearance before and after surgery are shown in the photographs below.
