With age, the skin and subcutaneous tissue become lax, and gravity causes the tissues to shift downward. In addition to the formation of wrinkles, this leads to the development of folds and changes in facial contours. This process affects both the face and the neck. While non-invasive treatments such as dermal fillers or Botox may be effective in the early stages, as changes progress, conservative methods cease to produce results and may even worsen the patient’s visual appearance. In such cases, surgical lifting and repositioning of the facial and neck tissues is the treatment of choice.
Neck lift:
This procedure corrects the medial or lateral portions of the platysma muscle, which is responsible not only for horizontal neck wrinkles but also for the loss of the cervicomental angle, visible as the so-called “sagging neck.” The procedure may be performed as part of a facelift and may require extension with a transverse incision in the central neck area or small incisions for liposuction. Platysma surgery allows for significant rejuvenation of the neck, an effect frequently expected by patients.
